چکیده

Over-expression and abnormal intracellular location of the product of the oncogene c-myc in colonic dysplasia and neoplasia may be related to alterations in epigenetic mechanisms controlling the functioning of this gene. We have investigated the methylation patterns of the c-myc oncogene in human colorectal tissue representing various stages of dysplasia and neoplasia, including metastasis to liver, omentum and lymph node. Comparison of normal and neoplastic tissues from the same patient showed a decrease in methylation in a specific CCGG site in the third exon of c-myc through the progression from normal via dysplastic to neoplastic and metastatic tissue. Quantitative analysis revealed that in colonic adenocarcinomas an average of 66.1 % and in metastatic deposits 83.1% of the myc gene DNA was hypomethylated at this site,

Noble metals: a toxicological appraisal of potential new environmental contaminants.

The public health benefits expected by reducing known hazardous emissions from mobile sources should not be compromised by increasing levels of other potentially hazardous unregulated emissions. Catalytic converters are going to be used to meet the statutory requirements on carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon emissions from light duty motor vehicles. Platinum and palladium metals are the catalytic ...

Photochemical Degradation of 2,4-dichlorophenol in Aqueous Solutions by Fe2+/ Peroxydisulfate/ UV Process

Phenol and its derivatives are one of the most common contaminants in the aquatic ecosystem. Because of high toxicity of 2,4-DCP for aquatic life, resistance to biodegradation and potential for biological accumulation it is known as a priority contaminant in the aquatic environment. Advanced Oxidation Processes were successfully used for degradation of non-biodegradable contaminants that are re...

Toxicological evaluation of vegetable oils and biodiesel in soil during the biodegradation process

Vegetable oils and their derivatives, like biodiesel, are used extensively throughout the world, thus posing an environmental risk when disposed. Toxicity testing using test organisms shows how these residues affect ecosystems. Toxicity tests using earthworms (Eisenia foetida) are widespread because they are a practical resource for analyzing terrestrial organisms. For phytotoxicological analys...

مروری بر روشهای ارزیابی سمیت مواد شیمیایی، گذار از روشهای اینویوو به روشهای نوین اینویترو

Exposure to occupational and environmental contaminants is a major contributor to human health problems. Despite significant achievements in the risk assessment of chemicals, the toxicological database, particularly for industrial chemicals, remains limited. Considering there areapproximately 80, 000 chemicals in commerce, and an extremely large number of chemical mixtures, in vivo testing of t...

Biodegradation of creosote and pentachlorophenol in contaminated groundwater: chemical and biological assessment.

Shake flask studies examined the rate and extent of biodegradation of pentachlorophenol (PCP) and 42 components of coal-tar creosote present in contaminated groundwater recovered from the American Creosote Works Superfund site, Pensacola, Fla. The ability of indigenous soil microorganisms to remove these contaminants from aqueous solutions was determined by gas chromatographic analysis of organ...
